I intend to do a photo shoot in which I can have the actors try on a variety of outfits so I am able to establish which ones fit the genre the most as well as which ones solidify the character. The image of the characters will be crucial for the music video as indie fashion is something that many people who like the indie culture can relate to.
I researched into indie fashion in order to get an idea for what my characters will wear. By looking through websites and various indie magazines I was able to establish stereotypical characteristics and attributes including vintage clothing, checked shirts and denim. These will be featured within my characters outfits.
Here are the outfits in order of appearance, Ashley's situated on the left and Paula's on the right:
Costumes for Present Scenes:
As these are the outfits that the actors will be wearing for the majority of the time, I needed to ensure that they signified effective messages as well as promoting the indie culture.
For Ashley's outfit, I wanted to foreshadow his dangerous qualities in which he displays at the end of my music video. To convey this, I wanted his costume to include the shade or red as this exudes feelings of threat and unpredictability. Moreover, I decided to feature the red hue on a checked shirt as this conforms to the indie style. Additionally, I decided to have Ashley's outfit include a top branded by Hollister; when Hollister originated, it was classed as an indie shop. The blue trousers tied the final image together as well as emitting an indie vibe due to them being skinny jeans, a common indie convention.
Regarding Paula's outfit, I believed it was significant to make her appear vulnerable to Ashley's character. In order to achieve this, I selected a top which showed her bare skin (her shoulders and stomach) to signify undertones of susceptibility. Furthermore, I illustrated the indie lifestyle through her jeans which were popular in the 1980's which are now considered vintage.

The costumes correspond well with each other, reinforcing the fact that they are together in this scene.
